Making Your Home Green

Every home can become green.  There are many different adjustments that can be made to make your home green.  And the benefits of doing so never end.  First of all, you’ll find fewer toxins inside your home making the air quality higher and the breathing easier.  Secondly, a green home helps to conserve resources on our planet.  This great for the world and starts with one home at a time.  And last but not least, your participation helps to create jobs.  The green movement is growing and spreading with new products and services introduced to the public every day.  This means more people working and a stronger economy results.

Here are a few ways to start making your home green.  Be sure to have your whole family participate in helping to make their environment at better place by including their ideas into their daily routine.

First of all, you can start with water conservation.  This is easy to do.  If you have an automatic sprinkling system, manually override it when it rains.  There is no sense in watering your lawn during a rainfall or even the next day.  Save money on your water bill by depending on nature and only water your grass when necessary.  Take shorter showers once a day instead of twice.  Use your bath towels over and over again a few times.  This helps you cut back on laundry thus saving water.  Install a water saving flush mechanism in your commode.  Make sure there are no dripping faucets, shower heads, or hose connections.  These are just a few water saving ideas.  Have your family members think up some more.

Energy efficiency is another green area to consider.  Make your home energy efficient with the types of lighting that you choose and also turn off any lights and appliances when not in use.  Invest in thermal windows; make sure your home is well insulated; check our tank-less water heaters and energy efficient thermostats.  Also, be sure to unplug anything not in use.  Radios, TVs, DVD players, cell phone chargers, etc. all use energy even when not unplugged.

Get started in a recycling program.  Sign up with your trash company for recycle pick-up.  Separate recycled items from your garbage – glass and plastic bottles, cans, cardboard, newspapers, etc.  Why throw them away when they can be recycled and used again or changed into other products,
thus helping to keep costs down and provided needed jobs.

These are just a few ideas to help you in making your home green.  Check out our Earth Friendly Category for more ideas, green products and services.
